when i was in therapy i once expressed to my therapist that i really struggle with having pretty much zero idea of who i am as a person + she whipped out a piece of paper and suggested that we write down different aspects of myself. and i had no idea what to say bc ‘myself’ is a concept i’m not very familiar with so she started saying about my interests and how that’s part of me + i was like okay!! that makes sense!! so she clicked her pen and was like “you said you like video games before” and i was like sure bud :) and watched her write down, in capital letters ‘GAMER’ and i’ve never had so much terror struck into my h
Protesting is a FELONY in Tennessee now…Facism at it’s finest (x)
I’m sorry, but people need to know this. This is LITERALLY the most blatant telltale sign of totalitarianism and this needs to be spread like wildfire.
DO NOT LOOK AWAY.
Y'all, I live here, and this is not a fucking joke.
Peaceful protesters had been at the People’s Plaza/Ida B. Wells Plaza for 61 days. The state and the police repeatedly tried to silence them, strip them of their resources, create and enact laws against them, and demonize them. I’ve stood face to face with the cops at this plaza for hours, and the entire time, everyone was peaceful. I’ve been surrounded by cops in riot gear on all four sides with these protesters, and still, everyone was peaceful. No matter what, they remain peaceful. Yet I’ve seen and read so many stories about how these protesters have been arrested on bullshit, made-up charges and have witnessed them be brutalized over and over again. I’ve seen so many people with chipped teeth, lung problems, scars, gashes, head trauma, bruises, sprains and fractures, concussions, and more all because of these pigs. I’ve read stories from protesters about how their experiences at the Plaza have triggered panic attacks, PTSD, psychosis, dissociation, and more and how some had been forcibly medicated/tranquilized by police without their consent. I’ve seen people get robbed of their personal items by these pigs, one cop going so far as to rob a man of his medications that he needed to live. I’ve seen and read about cops ripping masks off protesters and sexually harassing them. I’ve seen the cops speed down the road and almost hit protesters multiple times. I’ve read stories from protesters about how they’d been detained for hours and hours with several other people and without masks or how they, especially Black female protesters, had been detained in solitary for hours. And most of those people required medical attention, which they didn’t receive. A GIRL WITH ASTHMA ALMOST DIED BECAUSE THE COPS RELEASED A GAS SIMILAR TO TEAR GAS NEXT TO HER CELL AND IGNORED HER CRIES FOR HELP AND RESPONDED BY PUTTING HER IN SOLITARY AND TAUNTING HER INSTEAD OF PROVIDING MEDICAL ATTENTION, FFS!!
Over 200 arrests had been made during this 61-day occupation. The state tried to get a judge to allow 24/7 GPS-monitoring of a lead activist of the movement. Officers have kicked, punched, sexually harassed, dragged, hospitalized, tear-gassed, zip-tied, arrested, taunted, and brutalized protesters during this occupation. Protesters have held countless vigils and peaceful marches and have literally put their blood, sweat, and tears into this cause. All we wanted was for the governor to meet with the people to discuss removing Confederate monuments and addressing police violence, and this is what protesters were met with instead. And now they’ve made it illegal for us to even fight against their brutality and for our rights to freely exist while Black and brown.
This is not okay. This is totally and completely unconstitutional. Do not ignore this. Do not let this slip by. Do not let them win. Please help us fight all of this injustice. Our lives matter. Black lives fucking matter.
Dogs actually do have a language center in their brains. They process language just the same way we do, just not as well.
They do understand our words. This is not true of all domesticated animals (horses, for example, can only manage to distinguish a relatively small number of spoken commands…but boy do they know what you’re really saying).
They don’t understand “just your tone of voice” as a lot of people think.
As of 2016 the record vocabulary for a dog demonstrating understanding of words is over 1,000.
So if you give them a way to talk back, they’re going to use it.
The development of language skills is probably a side effect of domestication and of being kept in close contact with humans. A dog that was a better hunting partner would be kept and bred and over time they developed a better understanding of language.
In other words, dogs are pretty dang smart because we need them to understand us.
And also that is a very good boy.
^ Would like to agree and make one amendment - very good GIRL. This is Stella the dog!
Check out the owner Christina’s Instagram: one of the first things I saw was a video where the dog started barking and, when prompted by the owner, said “outside, look look look look look look look, come outside.” Which is basically exactly how one would expect a dog to speak.
The owner described bringing an unknown package into the house, and the dog ran away to push the buttons for “help no no help help” which is also about what I expect goes on in a scared pup’s mind.
In another video, the dog tried to push a button, and the button wasn’t working. The dog paused and then pushed the buttons for “No. Help.”
In yet another (which the owner seemed impressed by), Stella said “come eat come play.” The owner asked the dog which she wanted to do, to eat or to play? And the dog clarified “come eat.” After eating, then the dog tried to instigate play. So the dog may have been able to understand a short spoken question, and how “questions and answers” work, and also understands sequences, even if she can’t express them (”I want to eat, THEN I want to play”)
Stella can even recount short-term memories, like when her family returned from the beach for dinner and she said “water good, no eat, play”
By the way, the owner uses the buttons as well, which probably really helps reinforce their meaning. She uses them to say things like “Stella all done eat” or “Stella and Christina go outside, bye!”
Wanna know my favorite part? Stella sometimes pushes the buttons for “Stella good” when she’s done a good job. Stella IS good! :D She also makes phrases using “love you,” like “Christina, love you, come play!”
I feel this is an important addition. He saves so many people on a regular basis that this just keeps happening. And he feels so much for his uncle that the answer is always the same.
…. This hits different when you realise he’s canonically Jewish
Can you please elaborate ? I’m curious as to what it means
You can read a pretty good summary of it here, but as (most likely) Ashkenazi Jews, PP probably follows the minhag (custom) that says “that by naming a newborn child after a deceased loved one, the soul lives on through the child.” (Quoted from the site linked above.) And given how his Uncle Ben died, it just makes it all the more sadder tbh.
seems that Chrome has around 60-65% market share, so it’s not totally dominating the market yet but it’s worrying that we’re basically reliant on Apple and Microsoft to hold the line.
Does Firefox not count for anything?
about 10% and falling, but perhaps that can change, I just don’t see how.
Chrome edging towards 70% on desktop, Microsoft has thrown in the towel, Safari obviously rules iOS, Firefox exists only as insurance for Chrome.
Please, please I’m begging you, use firefox.
PLEASE install firefox as a mobile browser and then run adblock on your mobile browser it’s so good I promise.
Look.
Look.
I know I’m a total grind about open source stuff but browsers are the PERFECT place to learn to love open source software and for so long FireFox was a major part of the browser market and sometimes if you want to see what kind of fuckery google is up to it helps to see the kinds of things they block in firefox and just
There’s an organization that makes free, excellent, safe software that doesn’t collect and market your data but for some reason two thirds of the world uses a google product and most of the leftover population uses apple and just
I promise, firefox is so good - the extensions are incredible look - I can use lightbeam to see what sites I use and how they connect to other sites (bottom right should give you an idea how much time I spend on tumblr)
or I can look at ublock origin and see that it’s blocked over 2 million requests since I installed it or I can run the facebook container extension and stop facebook from tracking me and you know what I bet you can do a lot of that on chrome too but you’re doing that while chrome itself is tracking you and gobbling up your activity for google and
firefox is so fuckin great and it’s such a great ambassador for other open source projects please be a big old fuckin nerd with me and use firefox and run a bunch of funky extensions and customize the fuck out of your web experience.
This is really long and I can’t focus enough to read and understand the whole thing, can somebody summarize??
Firefox used to have a big part of the browser market but it has been by FAR surpassed by Chrome, which is a bummer. Firefox is free and open source and has been since 2003, they don’t track or sell your data and have built in privacy protections as well as many excellent extensions to customize your browser. Additionally you can install firefox on android devices and use extensions like ublock origin to block ads on your cellphone, which is great!
Is there a way to switch my bookmarks from chrome to Firefox? I’ve been using chrome for years, and I would hate to lose all my bookmarks, but I can move them if I must. I only have a gmail, will I need to create a new email? Or will it still work on firefox?
it should give you the option to import your bookmarks automatically when you install! gmail still works, although it might be a little slower because it’s designed to run better in chrome.
Star trek is cool but sometimes you can tell it was written by white people
Billy shat, narrating: the savage alien race,
Me:
I think about that tweet about “you can tell star trek was made by white people because they’re talking about ‘to boldly go where no one has gone before’ and then like 90% of the planets they go to are inhabited” every day
